What is a silent disco and how does it work?
A silent disco, also known as a silent party or headphone party, is a party where the music plays only in the guests' wireless headphones. Here is how it works, from the DJ booth to the dance floor.

The party you hear only in headphones
At a silent disco no speakers face the dance floor. Every guest wears wireless headphones that pick up the music by radio from a transmitter linked to the DJ. Inside the headphones it is loud and clear; step outside the circle and you only hear people singing along and laughing.
The headphones have three channels, so up to three DJs or three genres can run side by side. One button switches the channel and the LED changes colour, which shows the whole room who is tuned in to what.
That is why silent disco has become the answer wherever loud music is a problem: residential estates, guesthouses, game lodges, wine estates, beachfront venues and rooftops.
From the DJ booth to the headphone, in three steps
The source
The DJ connects the mixer to the transmitter with an XLR or RCA cable. A laptop or a phone with a playlist works just as well.
The transmitter
The transmitter sends the music by radio frequency (RF) to every headphone in the party area: a stable, lag-free signal with a range of up to 500 metres.
The headphone
Each guest switches on, chooses one of the three channels and sets the volume. The lithium battery lasts up to 10 hours.

What changes for you and your guests
| Aspect | Regular disco | Silent disco |
|---|---|---|
| Noise | Loud, also for the neighbours | Only in the headphones |
| Hours | Often restricted | More flexible |
| Music genres | One at a time | Up to three at once |
| Volume | Same for everyone | Personal |
| Conversation | You shout | Lower the headphones |
| Power cut | The music stops | Battery headphones and transmitter |
Six reasons to choose a silent disco
No noise complaints
The music stays in the headphones: ideal in residential estates, guesthouses, game lodges and venues with sound limits.
Your own volume
Each guest sets their own level: loud for the dance-floor regulars, gentle for grandparents and little ones.
Three genres, one floor
Three channels at once: amapiano, house and 80s classics in the same space, with no fights over the playlist.
Talk without shouting
Slip the headphones down to your neck to chat: the party becomes more social, not less.
A glowing dance floor
The LEDs light up in the colour of each channel, so you see at a glance who is listening to what.
Ready for load shedding
The headphones run up to 10 hours on their own battery and the TX-330 transmitter has a built-in one too.

DiscoverSilent disco: the most common questions
Are silent disco, silent party and headphone party the same thing?
Yes: silent disco, silent party, headphone party and quiet clubbing all describe the same idea. "Silent party" tends to be used for private celebrations and "silent disco" for clubs and festivals, but the technology is identical.
Is there any lag between the music and the headphones?
No. Radio frequency is instant and every headphone receives the music at the same moment, unlike Bluetooth.
Do I need Wi-Fi or mobile data?
No. The transmitter and headphones communicate by radio, which is handy on a farm or in the bush where signal is patchy. No app is needed either.
How long does the headphone battery last?
Up to 10 hours on a full charge, which takes about 4 hours. The headphones arrive charged and the chargers are in the kit.
Can I use a playlist instead of a DJ?
Yes: plug a laptop, tablet or phone into the transmitter. With three channels you can prepare three different playlists.
How much does a silent disco cost?
It depends mainly on the number of headphones: as a guide, a single event with 50 headphones costs €250–400, with shipping and customs quoted separately. Every band is in the price guide.
